Re: news
"Biarritz Olympique is one of France’s most historic teams, having won the French Top 14 domestic league on five occasions, including back-to-back titles in 2005 and 2006. In its heyday in the mid-2000s, Biarritz was one of the most-feared squads in all of Europe, having finished runner-up in the Heineken Cup, rugby’s equivalent of football’s UEFA Champions League, in 2006 and 2010. Biarritz won the European Challenge Cup in 2012 and currently boasts French stars including Imanol Harinordoquy and Dimitri Yachvili along with international stars Joe Pieterson from South Africa and World Cup winner Iain Balshaw from England.
Biarritz’s home stadium, the Parc des Sports Aguilera, is considered one of the French league’s most intimidating venues to play at, thanks to passionate support from the team’s vocal fans who often wave the Basque flag and sing traditional songs in unison in the stands.
Serge Blanco, President of Biarritz Olympique, said: “Biarritz Olympique are delighted to be competing in this inaugural World Club 10s tournament in Singapore. The stadium looks fantastic, and it will be a great opportunity for us to meet French rugby fans from across all of Asia. We hope they come to Singapore to support us. “It is a special year for Biarritz rugby, with this being our 100th season, so it is a special time for us to celebrate Biarritz rugby. This World Club 10s tournament is the perfect end to this important year. I’m looking forward to coming with our squad.”"
